Carpet weaving is one of the oldest handicrafts brought by the Turkic tribes who migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia. In Anatolia, carpet weaving became widespread especially during the Seljuk period. In the Ottoman era, weaving spread to the villages, with each region developing its own language of colors, patterns, and motifs. The motifs were not merely decorative but also symbols reflecting the emotions, wishes, and beliefs of the weaver. For example, the Ram’s Horn represents strength and masculinity, the Hands-on-Hips symbolizes fertility and femininity, the Scorpion stands for protection against evil, while the Waterway & Tree of Life express immortality and the cycle of life.
The first carpet design we have transferred onto Iznik tiles consists of the Tree of Life motif and vibrant colors. Each Iznik tile is entirely handcrafted by master artisans.
