Lokanta Yogurt Istanbul Iznik Tile Project

Lokanta Yogurt Istanbul Iznik Tile Project

For Lokanta Yogurt, custom Iznik tiles were produced by Iznik Mavi Cini for use in the venue located within Altunizade Suites Istanbul. Positioned along the window areas, this architectural surface application was developed with dimensions and pattern compositions that support the character of the space. The project presents a balanced approach that brings together traditional Iznik tile aesthetics and a contemporary interior design perspective.

The Lokanta Yogurt Project was approached through surface elements that complement the restaurant’s interior architectural design. For the venue located within Altunizade Suites Istanbul, Iznik tiles in various sizes were produced and installed along the window areas. Covering a total surface area of 80 m², these tile applications were designed as an element that strengthens the relationship between the space and natural light while adding visual depth to the seating areas.
Lokanta Yogurt’s approach, which places traditional tradesmen culture at its core, also played a defining role in the decoration decisions. In this context, the Iznik tiles were not treated merely as a historical reference, but rather as a surface language reinterpreted through a contemporary aesthetic perspective. The pattern composition was developed with a simple and balanced design approach that complements the modern character of the space, without being directly bound to the classical Iznik style.
“In this project, we approached tile not as a decorative object, but as a surface element that completes the architectural rhythm of the space.”
— Iznik Mavi Cini, Senior Architectural Projects Production Facility Manager
In which areas of the venue are these tile applications located?
The Iznik tiles are positioned along the window areas of Lokanta Yogurt. These spaces were designed both to contribute to the interior atmosphere and to support the narrative identity of the restaurant.

How does this application relate to the venue’s concept?
Lokanta Yogurt’s culinary approach, which establishes a connection with the past, is also reflected in its interior design. The Iznik tiles were incorporated as a complementary element that expresses this approach through a distinctive surface language.

Should these surfaces be considered ceramics or Iznik tiles?
Although these surfaces may be perceived as ceramics due to their application context, their production approach and design language are rooted in the tradition of Iznik tiles. This choice creates a surface language that reinforces the cultural references of the venue.
