Istanbul Camlica Mosque Iznik Tile Project

Istanbul Camlica Mosque Iznik Tile Project

In this architectural Iznik tile application carried out at Camlica Mosque in Istanbul, traditional Iznik tiles were produced by Iznik Mavi Cini. Within the scope of the project carried out in collaboration with Anikya, patterned and plain-colored Iznik tile surfaces were prepared for use in the mosque interiors. The project aimed to create a surface language in harmony with the architectural elegance and spiritual atmosphere of the building.

Within the scope of the Camlica Mosque project, Iznik Mavi Cini undertook the production process for the Iznik tile surfaces integrated into the mosque’s architectural composition. In this project, carried out together with Anikya, a total of 500 square meters of patterned Iznik tiles and 200 square meters of plain-colored Iznik tiles were produced. The production was planned by taking into account the scale, light, and surface continuity perceived within the mosque interiors.

Traditional floral patterns and elegant calligraphic inscriptions were used together in the Iznik tile designs. This approach aimed to bring the classical motifs of the Iznik tile tradition together with the art of calligraphy, creating a balanced and continuous surface language within the space. The pattern and color choices were developed in harmony with the architectural elegance of the mosque and the spiritual atmosphere of the worship space.

This architectural application presents a comprehensive example of how the traditional production knowledge of Iznik tiles can be positioned within large-scale contemporary religious buildings.

“In religious buildings of this scale, Iznik tile application is not merely a decorative element, but a surface composition that defines the rhythm and perception of the space.”
— Iznik Mavi Cini, Senior Architectural Projects Production Facility Manager
