Gallery Nev x Fureya x Iznik Mavi Cini

Füreya Koral was the pioneer of contemporary ceramic art in Türkiye and one of the founding figures of the discipline. Introduced to ceramics in Switzerland in 1947, Koral spent two years studying in various workshops in Paris before returning to Türkiye, where she made ceramics the center of her life. Pursuing this path through her own determination, she became Türkiye’s first professional female ceramic artist and established one of the country’s first private ceramic studios. Viewing ceramics not merely as an art object but as a medium integrated with architecture, Füreya Koral left a lasting and inspiring legacy through both her work and her pioneering vision, playing a defining role in the development of ceramic art in Türkiye.
In this special collaboration with Gallery Nev, a ceramic tile preserved in Füreya Koral’s family collection was reinterpreted as a limited edition, carefully adapted to the traditions and proportions of classical Iznik tile art. Translating an artwork originally created in acrylic into Iznik tile pigments required a meticulous process and considerable technical expertise. Because Iznik pigments, composed of metal oxides, do not reveal their final colors until after firing, achieving the desired result demanded both craftsmanship and careful experimentation. This project stands among the distinguished limited-edition works that reflect the technical expertise and artisanal tradition of Iznik Mavi Cini.
