The Green Mosque
IZNIK
The construction of the Green Mosque in Iznik was commissioned by Halil Hayreddin Pasha of Çandar in 1378, but when he passed away, his son Ali Pasha completed the construction in 1392. The mosque’s minaret features abundant use of colorful (yellow, green, purple, turquoise) and glazed tiles that were common in the Seljuk era and were pieced together using the mosaic technique.
The tiles with reliefs or shaped as star prisms and those that were damaged or stolen over time were produced in line with their original forms in our facility as a part of the 2015 restoration project.
