Sultan Ahmet Mosque
ISTANBUL
Commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed I, this mosque is also known as the Blue Mosque as it is decorated with Iznik tiles of various colors and patterns and as its large dome is mostly ornated with blue hand-drawn patterns.
200 pieces of Iznik tiles were produced for the restoration of the minarets of the mosque. These tiles are turquoise and have oval rectangle shapes.
